Visit to see Harry's new digs - and of course, out to lunch

From the street
Since we were going to St Pete to retrieve the book, we called Harry and luckily he was free for lunch - he gave us a tour of his place, raged a tad about the driver's license bureau and the ridiculous requirements that have recently been instituted - if you have to renew your license, be sure to get a complete list of the required documents BEFORE you go and stand in line - makes one wonder about this country.  Here are a few pictures of his cottage which we're sure he's going to enjoy.  Was a lovely day and a good lunch at Billy's.

Book Binder - to refurbish old books

We were given a 1902 book which was in poor condition.  After searching high and low, one of the companies we called recommended  Griffin Bookbinding in St. Petersburg.  So off we went to find David at the Salt Creek Artworks.  Location - 1600 4th Street South - phone number 727-254-7962.
 Website:  www.griffinbookbinding.com.
You should call to make sure he's in and expecting you - The Artworks is a fascinating place, housing many individual artist's studios - their works are hung throughout the building.  An interesting place to prowl through - and the job he did on the book was just short of miraculous:

Quilt Presentation and Party Sept 19, 2010

Has Harry's name, the date and church name

Pictures of the party and quilt presentation.  Held at Caroline's
home - Judy brought the finished quilt - it's beautiful and has all the names that the parish added to the quilt.  The party was great fun and the day ended with a dinner at the Reef and Grill, on the pier in Palmetto.

HAP Afghans

HAP - Handmade Afghan Project - started in the DC area by a group of women.  It has grown like topsy - now consists of over 1200 members all over the country.  Members make 6" x 9" rectangles (acrylic, worsted weight), send them in to a member in the DC area, the rectangles are organized by color and taken to a "Put Together Event" where they are designed into afghans ( 7 rectangles by 7 rectangles).  These are sent out across the country to members who crochet them together into afghans which are then sent back to the DC area.  There they are washed and packaged and distributed to military hospitals worldwide.  When a vet or his/her family receives an afghan it is composed of rectangles made by many different people and put together by yet another member.  To date over 4,500 afghans have been distributed.
At the design event - this was designed by John

Mini-Vacation on AMI

A brief 'vacation' to Anna Maria Island - stayed at Paige and Gary's cottage and spent almost the entire time on the beach, fishing.  One extra that was unplanned was a visit from Ben - he called and was in Sarasota on business so joined us for dinner at the Sandbar - good food and better company.

Easy way to carry the Mackerel
Beautiful Sunset to end the day
